Biobased Products
The following information states facts regarding the federal government’s role in monitoring all agencies requirements to purchase Biobased products. In addition the products MUST be those which have been recommended or designated. The Jackhammer “PureGreen” Products line from EnviroLogic-Spillaway has been designated.
In January 2005 final guidelines of the Federal Biobased Product Procurement Preference Program were stated as follows:
All agencies are required to have a Biobased preferred procurement program in place by January 2006.
This program must consist of:
A Biobased product preference program
A Biobased product procurement promotion program
An annual review and monitoring of program effectiveness
Use of Biobased products holds the promise of:
•creating new domestic demand for many agricultural commodities that can serve as feedstock for production of Biobased products;
•spurring the industrial base through value-added agricultural processing and manufacturing in rural communities; and
•enhancing the Nation's energy security by substituting domestically produced Biobased products for those made from fossil energy-based products derived from imported oil and natural gas.
